Men held after armed raid on store

A man in his eighties has been killed in a road traffic accident

Two men have been arrested over an armed hold-up at a suburban supermarket.

Workers at the shop in Rathfarnham, south Dublin, were left shaken after a gang wielding a handgun and baseball bat threatened them on Thursday night.

Three men escaped after forcing the staff in the supermarket in Grange Road to hand over cash at around 8.50pm.

Detectives said there were no injuries.

They found a suspected getaway car and two men during a chase a short time later at Whitehall Road in nearby Churchtown.

The men, one in his early 30s and the other in his 20s, were arrested.

A handgun and cash was also recovered.

The two men are being held at Tallaght Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
