Men carjack couple who stopped to help at accident scene

A GROUP of men stole the car of a couple who stopped to help them at the scene of a road traffic collision in Co Wicklow today.

The incident occurred following a traffic collision at Clara Vale, Rathdrum this afternoon at around 2.30pm.

The accident involved a bus and a black Volvo.

Four male occupants of the black Volvo stole a German registered black Mercedes C180 which had stopped to lend assistance at the scene.

The female passenger in the Mercedes received slight injuries in the incident.

The vehicle left the scene in the direction of Glendalough.

Gardai are investigating reports that the Volvo car was involved in a burglary earlier in the Athy area of Carlow.

The black Mercedes has now been located in Tullow Co Carlow.

The car has been preserved for technical examination. There have been no arrests to date. A search is underway involving Gardai from Wicklow, Carlow and the Garda Air Support Unit.
