TRANSPLANT recipient Meadhbh McGivern has been moved from intensive care to a special ward for liver patients.
One week on from her marathon 15-hour liver transplant, the 14-year-old schoolgirl, from Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, has been deemed well enough to be moved to a ward to complete her recovery at King's College Hospital in London.
Meadhbh's parents, Joe and Assumpta, have been keeping a constant vigil at their daughter's bedside for the past week.
Her delighted father expressed his joy at his daughter's progress.
"She is conscious and so much brighter now, the surgeons here are very happy with her progress, which is fantastic news."
It is expected to be several weeks before Meadhbh returns home.
