McLynn hoping for success with new 'father' role

SHE shot to fame as Mrs Doyle in 'Fr Ted'. Now Pauline McLynn hopes another Irish father will be a comedy hit on the BBC.

She will take a starring role alongside Jason Byrne in the latest Irish sitcom series snapped up by the British broadcaster.

The channel has ordered an entire series of 'Father Figure'.

The station is hoping that the show, penned by comedian Byrne, will have the same success as BAFTA award-winning Irish series 'Mrs Brown's Boys'.

Byrne will play stressed-out stay-at-home father Tom, who is struggling with his role in the family after losing his job.

He is married to an English bookmaker but his Irish mother and father live in England and interfere in his life.
