McDowell is named as new Clogher bishop

A FORMER British Aerospace worker has been elected by the House of Bishops of the Church of Ireland as the new Bishop of Clogher, writes John Cooney,

The Rev John McDowell, rector of St Mark's, Dundela in the diocese of Down and Dromore, will succeed Dr Michael Jackson, who recently was enthroned as the Archbishop of Dublin.

Born in 1956 in Belfast, Bishop-elect McDowell worked in British Aerospace and for the Confederation of British Industry before being ordained in 1996.

He is married to Mary Jackson and they have a daughter.
