McDowell believes it's time for new centre-right party
THE former Tanaiste and Justice Minister Michael McDowell believes a new 'right of centre' political movement will emerge in Ireland in the wake of the upcoming General Election.
Writing in the Sunday Independent today, Mr McDowell says the time to start on a new project is May or June of this year.
"The target must be the next General Election," he says. "While there will be a slate of independents in the next Dail, there is no coherent unifying or guiding spirit behind their support base.
"They are receiving support because they are non-party rather than on the basis of a clear trend in public thinking," he writes.
