McAleese names lifeboat

President Mary McAleese yesterday officially named the RNLI's new Tamar class lifeboat the 'Killarney', in honour of a couple who met for the first time on a cruise ship by the same name.

Mary Weeks, from Surrey in England, died in 2006 and in her will donated funds that paid for the new lifeboat which was unveiled in Kilmore Quay, Co Wexford. The new €3m lifeboat is the most modern and technically advanced boat in the RNLI fleet. The vessel has a maximum speed of 25 knots.
