Former Fianna Fail TD John Carty has passed away at the age of 63.
Mr Carty was a TD for Mayo from 2002 to 2007.
Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin has paid tribute to the former TD who passed away last night.
Mr Martin expressed his sympathies to Mr Cathy’s wife, Kathleen, their eight children and extended family and friends.
He said he was “deeply saddened” to learn of the death of Mr Carty, who was “one of life’s true gentlemen”.
“John Carty was a man of the people. I remember how proud he was the day he was elected a TD in 2002. He was truly honoured to represent the people of Co Mayo in Dáil Éireann.
“He was a diligent and dedicated public representative and took his job as a TD, a Senator and a Councillor very seriously. John was much loved across Co Mayo and within the agriculture and small business communities in particular. He will be sadly missed,” he said.
