Martin leaves door open for leadership bid
FOREIGN Affairs Minister Micheal Martin last night left the door open to taking over as Fianna Fail leader in future, but pledged his support to embattled Taoiseach Brian Cowen.
Mr Martin said Mr Cowen would lead Fianna Fail into the next general election.
But he claimed there was no member of the Fianna Fail frontbench who wouldn't like to be leader.
He found himself at the centre of the fallout from the infamous 'Morning Ireland' interview last week when he claimed "lessons had to be learned".
On the conclusion of a conference with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in New York last night, Mr Martin said Mr Cowen had his full support.
