Man's body found after suspected abduction

BARRY DUGGAN

Human remains found last night on a riverbank are believed to be those of a missing man who is thought to have been abducted from his flat before Christmas.

The badly decomposed body was discovered yesterday afternoon by a farmer alongside the river Shannon at Portrine, Cratloe, Co Clare.

It is believed that the body may be that of Frank Green (48), originally from Kilteely, Co Limerick. He has been missing from his Limerick city flat since November 28 last.

Gardai are investigating the theory that Mr Green may have been abducted from his Hartstonge Street basement apartment on the night of his disappearance.

The State pathologist will conduct an examination on the remains today in a bid to determine the cause of death.

Following his disappearance, investigating detectives viewed several hundreds hours of CCTV footage from Limerick city.

Last month, a 27-year-old man was arrested in Limerick and questioned on suspicion of falsely imprisoning Mr Green on the day he was last seen. He was later released without charge and a file on the matter was being prepared for the DPP.
