GARDAI last night launched a murder inquiry following the shooting of a man in his 20s in Finglas, Dublin.

The incident occurred in the Barnamore estate shortly before 7pm. The dead man was known to gardai.

According to eye witnesses, the man was in the front garden of a relative's house along with two small children when he was shot. It is understood he was hit three times in the neck and head by two assailants who then made their getaway on a motorbike.

The dead man, who has not yet been named, was a suspect in relation to the murder in July of Colm Owens, 34, of Dunsoughly, Finglas, Dublin. Owens had no convictions for serious crime but was known to have had links with criminal gangs, being friendly with murdered gang boss Eamon Dunne.
