Man shot and tied up by gang

A man was shot in the arm and tied up in his home by a six-man gang, gardai said today.

The man, in his 30s, was alone in his house in Rathduffmore, Hacketstown, near the Carlow-Wicklow border, when the armed men broke in yesterday at about 10pm.

It is believed the man was able to free himself and raise the alarm.

A Garda spokesman said the break-in was not being treated as a robbery but further examinations were going on at the house.

The man was taken to Naas General Hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The man, who also suffered injuries to his face, was later transferred to Tallaght Hospital where his condition was described as stable.
