Man seriously injured following aggravated burglary

A woman has been arrested after a man was seriously injured in an aggravated burglary on Monday night.

The shocking incident happened in the St Mary’s Terrace area of Belturbet in Co Cavan at around 10.45pm.

Four masked people broke their way into the man’s house armed with a knife and iron bars and assaulted the 59-year-old.

He was left with serious injuries and taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital for treatment.

A television was stolen in the incident.

A woman was later arrested by gardai investigating the break-in. She is being questioned at Ballyconnell garda station in Co Cavan.
