Two units from the Dublin Fire Brigade were called to the scene at Milltown Bridge in South Dublin Sunday afternoon after passers-by raised the alarm after hearing the man’s (30s) cry for help.

It is unclear how long the man was trapped in the river but he was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for hypothermia.

Independent.ie understands that he is recovering well and has since been released.

A spokesperson for the Dublin Fire Brigade said that the man’s foot became stuck in a drain just under the Milltown Bridge by the pedestrian underpass, adding that he had been in the water for sometime before he was freed.
