Man released as gardai probe father of three's death

John Lawlor: victim

GARDAI investigating the death of a father-of-three in Wexford have released a man without charge.

The man, who is in his forties, was found injured with the deceased, John Lawlor, at the scene in Courtown Harbour, late on Christmas Eve.

He was then transferred to Wexford General Hospital, and was arrested following his discharge from the hospital.

However, he was released by gardai late on Wednesday night.

Gardai confirmed that a post-mortem examination was due to take place on Mr Lawlor's body yesterday. No funeral arrangements have yet been made for Mr Lawlor.

Fr Tom Dalton, the local parish priest, said that the entire community was in shock as the tragic news filtered through the close-knit community on Christmas Day.

"The news was only beginning to filter through at the time of Christmas Mass. But yes, for anyone that heard the news, it was a great shock," Fr Dalton said.

He added: "It's tough at anytime of the year, but I suppose it comes home all the more at Christmas time."
