Man recovering after being shot in chest

A MAN shot in the chest is making a "strong recovery" in hospital after the bullet missed his heart.

Frank Nolan (48) survived because the bullet passed through his body without penetrating his vital organs. He is due to be discharged from hospital in a few days.

Garda Special Branch officers have joined the hunt for the gunman, who made his escape on a bicycle after firing three shots. He is in his early 20s and appears to have acted alone.

The shooting took place at Oranmore Road in Ballyfermot, Dublin, on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim had been in the local post office and, as he emerged onto the street, the gunman jumped from behind parked cars and shot him.

He is known to be friendly with dissident sympathisers in west Dublin and could have been shot due to those links.
