Brian Hutton

A man is being questioned about the shooting dead of a taxi passenger overnight.

Detectives said a lone killer fired a number of shots into a taxi as it pulled up outside a house on Cluain Ard, Lis Na Dara, Dundalk, shortly before 4am.

A 35-year-old man sitting in the back seat was hit and died.

The other occupants, a male driver aged 48, and a 21 year old woman in the front passenger seat, received injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

They were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital to be treated for their wounds.

A short time later a 32-year-old man presented himself at Carrickmacross Garda station, in Co Monaghan, where he was arrested. He is being held under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.
