Man quizzed over handguns discovery

A man was being questioned by gardai today after two handguns and bullets were found on waste ground.

Officers targeting Dublin's criminal gangs searched the open area in Charleville Mall, near the Royal Canal in the north inner city, yesterday afternoon.

The man, in his early 20s, was arrested as part of a follow-up operation in the North Strand area.

He is being held at Store Street garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

The firearms and ammunition are being examined by gardai.
