Man quizzed in hospital over fatal shooting

Gardai have interviewed a man who was hospitalised after an incident in which a suspected drug dealer was shot dead in county Kildare.

Officers were anxious to talk to the man to help them determine whether the shotgun blast, which killed Edward 'Ned' Hamilton, was fired accidentally.

They had to wait while the witness was undergoing medical treatment at Naas hospital. The man sustained severe injuries to his hand during the incident.

The shooting took place shortly after Christmas in a chalet behind a bungalow in a rural area in Kilmeague, Naas.

Mr Hamilton (33), from Donadea, had been drinking earlier in the night with the witness and another man.

Gardai were alerted and recovered a legally held shotgun at the scene.
