Man injured in second plant blast
A MAN was injured in an explosion at a gas bottling plant yesterday -- the second such incident in less then a year at the facility.
The blast occurred at Irish Oxygen Company Ltd, Waterfall, on the outskirts of Cork city shortly after lunchtime.
The cause of the explosion was unknown but seven units from the fire brigade, ambulance personnel and gardai rushed to the scene.
One man, who suffered burns to his back, was treated at the plant and was then taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital. Two men were injured in an explosion at the same plant in November 2011.
The Health and Safety Authority said it would carry out an initial investigation to determine if it was a work process which caused the explosion.
