Man injured following shooting during New Year's Eve party

One man is in hospital and another is in garda custody following a shooting at a house in the early hours of this morning.

A 31-year-old man was taken to Kerry General Hospital after being shot in the right side of his body at a house in Kilgobnet near Beaufort in Co Kerry.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The incident occurred in the rural location about 17km from Killarney at around 1.20am.

A second man, who is 48 years old, was arrested in connection with the incident under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

He is being detained at Killarney Garda Station where he can be held for up to 72 hours.

It is understood a New Year’s party had been going on at the time the shooting occurred.
