Man in his 70s arrested after cannabis growhouse catches fire Newsdesk Newsdesk

An elderly man has been arrested after a fire broke out in a cannabis growhouse with 250 plants.

The man in his 70s is currently being detained and gardai have seized cannabis worth an estimated €200,000.

At around 9.30am on Thursday 9.30am emergency services attended a fire at a house in Rathvilly in Co Carlow which lead to the discovery.

"After the fire was extinguished Gardaí discovered a grow house with 250 cannabis plants," a garda spokesman said.

A manhunt is underway for a second man who escaped through the rear of the property.

Gardaí are appealing for witness to contact Carlow Garda Station.

The seizure marks the second in the Carlow in recent days, with a combined value of €560,000 cannabis seized by gardai.
