Man in his 40s arrested in connection with armed robbery at petrol station

A man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a petrol station at Rathass, Tralee, Co.Kerry last night.

A man armed with a hatchet entered the petrol station, threatened staff and stole cash yesterday at 8.20pm. They made off on foot across Rathass Graveyard.

There were no injuries reported.

Gardaí came upon a man in his 40s fitting the description close to Fountain Court, Tralee.

He was arrested and is currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Tralee Garda Station.

In a follow up search of the area money, a hatchet and clothing were recovered by Gardai.
