Man in 40s killed in a motorbike collision and another man arrested

A man in his early forties has died and another man has been arrested after a collision in Mayo yesterday.

The deceased man was fatally injured when his motorbike collided with a van on the N26 Ballina-Foxford Road at Ballinahaglish, County Mayo at approximately 3.45pm.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to Mayo General Hospital where a post mortem is to be arranged.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

Gardai report today that a man in his mid-thirties was later arrested for road traffic offences in connection with the investigation.

He is currently detained at Ballina Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The road was closed for a period of time to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision investigators but has since reopened.
