It is understood the elderly man was queueing for a bus on Royal Avenue, outside Central Library, at around 4.35pm yesterday when he fell and suffered a head injury.

It is believed investigators are trying to establish if there was a disagreement at the bus stop.

A 30-year-old man was arrested but was later released pending further inquiries.

Detectives said a nurse had offered first aid at the scene before the injured man was rushed to hospital, where he has since died.

Officers appealed for the medic to come forward.

Police said the investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing and they asked for anyone with information to contact detectives.
