A MAN was arrested after a raider made away with €5,000 in an armed robbery on a city centre bank.
The masked lone raider, believed to have been armed with a revolver, ran into the AIB branch on North Main Street just off Cork city centre at 4.30pm and demanded cash from shocked staff.
He grabbed a sum of money from behind the counter before fleeing on foot. No staff members were injured in the incident and no shots were fired.
Gardai confirmed a man in his 30s had been arrested shortly after the robbery in the Shandon Street area. He is being held at Bridewell Garda Station in the city.
