A man is fighting for his life this morning after being found unconscious with serious injuries on a Dublin street early this morning.
The man was found in a pool of blood on the footpath on Lorcan Ave in Santry at 5.40am and gardai and the emergency services were contacted immediately.
He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital where he is in a serious condition this morning.
A pool of blood could be seen on the street where the man was discovered.
Gardai have not identified this man, who they believe is aged between 25 and 35yrs.
He is described as being of stocky build, very tight hair, approx 5'8" to 5'11" and was wearing light brown boots, a green/kaki roundneck T-shirt, and a watch with luminious green straps.
The street at the scene where the man was found was sealed off for a technical examination.
And a nearby house had a garda posted outside it.
Gardai were also active in a small laneway beside the house and a large team of detectives could be seen carrying out door-to-door enquiries on the quiet suburban road.
"We don't know what's happening, we are really stunned," said one neighbour this morning.
"I heard talking on the street when I woke up this morning and when I looked out the window people had gathered beside the man and the ambulance was arriving. It's shocking to think something like this could happen and you could sleep through it," she explained.
There have been no arrests at this stage and Gardai are appealing for anyone who may recognise the injured male from the description above to contact them in Santry, they are also appealing for anyone who may have witnessed an incident or who may have been in the Lorcan Ave area between 5am and 5.40am this morning to contact them on 01 6664000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
