A man has been found dead by a rubbish chute in an apartment block.
Gardai said they were alerted to the discovery in Cork city on Monday evening after a supervisor in the City Garden complex checked on reports of a blockage at a waste disposal system.
The man' s death is being treated as suspicious.
Gardai said they were trying to establish how long the body has been there and asked for the state pathologist's office to carry out a forensic examination at the scene.
The alarm was raised at about 5.30pm when a supervisor inspected the chute which runs from the fourth floor of the block on North Main Street and Bachelors Quay in the city to the ground.
The man's age has not been confirmed.
The body was discovered next to drains and a large rubbish bin used to collect waste from the chute.
