Man fights for life after row leaves him with head injuries

A 24-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital following a row in Co Cork.
Gardaí are investigating the incident which happened on the High Road in Cobh.
It is understood the man sustained serious head injuries during an altercation involving a small number of people at 2.15am on December 27.
He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital and is continuing to undergo treatment.
Local councillor Kieran McCarthy said he was "shocked" after learning about the incident.
"The High Road is a very affluent part of town," Cllr McCarthy told the Irish Independent last night.
"I am very surprised to hear this. It is out of the ordinary for Cobh," he added.
The independent councillor said the local garda station is situated just a three-minute drive from where the altercation took place.
