A man has been charged with firearms offences by police investigating loyalist protests in Northern Ireland.

The suspect, 43, is accused of possessing a weapon and ammunition in suspicious circumstances and dishonestly using electricity.

He is expected to appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court.

It followed a search in the Kings Way area of Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, by detectives investigating incidents connected to ongoing protests and public disorder throughout Northern Ireland.

A 24-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman arrested at the time have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
