Man dies putting up festive lights

THE funeral for a man who fell from the roof of his home as he put up Christmas lights will take place tomorrow.

Chris Courtney, aged in his mid 60s, died on Tuesday after suffering serious injuries in the fall in Scramogue, Co Roscommon.

He made a desperate 999 call for help moments before he fell.

Mr Courtney's funeral takes place tomorrow at St Mary's Church, Drumlish, Co Longford, where his family originally comes from.

Mayor of Roscommon Eugene Murphy, who lived close to Mr Courtney, said the community was in grief following the shock death.

"He was a good guy, a great conversationalist," he said.
