Man dies in workplace accident after roof and wall collapse

A man has died following a workplace accident in Co Laois this morning.

The man, who is in his 50s, was carrying out building work at a property in Portarlington when he was injured at around 10.30am.

According to the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) the man died after falling from a height of just over two meters.

He was rushed to the Midland Regional Hospital at Portlaoise where he was later pronounced dead.

The HSA confirmed it has inspectors at the scene and an investigation is under way.

A Garda spokesman confirmed the man sustained injuries when a roof section and walls collapsed in the building.
