Man dies after 'road rage' attack

A driver who was attacked in an apparent road rage incident has died, gardai said today.

The 49-year-old was beaten over the head by another man with a hurley several days ago.

He died yesterday in hospital.

Gardai said two motorists were involved in a row in the Sandymount area of south Dublin at 7.25pm on Sunday.

The attack happened at the junction of Sandymount Road/Newbridge Avenue and Tritonville Road.

The man suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital. He was subsequently transferred to Beaumont where he died.

Detectives are trying to trace passengers travelling on the number two Dublin Bus at 7.25pm on Sunday.

The dead man was from Newcastle in England and was believed to have been living and working in Dublin for several months.

Gardai appealed for witnesses to contact Irishtown Garda Station.
