Karl McCaughley (39), pictured right, with an address at Kilmore Woods, Ballinspittle, Co Cork, was brought before Cork District Court yesterday morning.

The charges relate to fraud, theft and forgery offences under Section 4 of the Theft and Fraud Act. The total amount of money detailed in the charges came to €142,624.

The court heard that Mr McCaughley was in garda custody but there was no objection to him being released on his own bail. Detective Garda Mick Horgan said that gardai were seeking to have the matter adjourned until September 21.

Judge Olann Kelleher ordered the accused to return to court on that date.
