A MAN has been charged with the Christmas Eve murder of a father of three in Co Wexford.
David Shanley of Courtown Harbour, Gorey, appeared before a special sitting of Wexford District Court yesterday.
Mr Shanley was charged with the murder of 48-year-old John Lawlor on December 24, 2013. Mr Lawlor's body was found just before midnight at Red Row in the townland of Ballinatray Lower, Courtown Harbour.
Inspector Sean Clince said bail was not applicable in the case, and Judge Patrick Clyne remanded Mr Shanley in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Friday.
Mr Lawlor, who lived alone, was stabbed to death on the doorstep of his home just hours after he had enjoyed festive drinks in a local pub.
It's understood the father of three was fatally wounded when he was stabbed in the leg, severing a vital artery.
Mr Lawlor had worked as a maintenance man at the nearby O'Loughlin's Caravan Park. He once played soccer with Courtown Hibs, and was a popular figure in the community.
