A man has been arrested over a string of four armed robberies in two days in south Belfast.

Nobody was hurt in the commercial raids but the shop staff were left "badly shaken", the Police Service of Northern Ireland said.

The first robbery took place at around 8.30am on Thursday in the Ormeau Road area of the city, followed by two more in Botanic Avenue at 9.55am and 8.30pm.

A fourth business, Vivo newsagents in Ormeau Road, was targeted by man wielding a knife at 4pm on Friday.

A 23-year-old man remains in police custody and officers have appealed for witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at Musgrave PSNI station on 101.
