Man arrested following death of cyclist last week

A man arrested following the death of a cyclist in his 60s at a junction in Dublin has been released without charge.

Gardaí investigating the fatal traffic collision, which occurred on Clontarf Road on the 30th June, arrested the man, who is aged in his 20s, was earlier today.

He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Clontarf Garda Station, before being released. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecution.

A garda spokesman said: "Investigating Gardaí would like to thank those who have come forward and assisted them with their investigation to date, and are continuing to appeal for witnesses to contact the incident room.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Clontarf Garda Station 01-6664800, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."

The victim was named locally as Eugene Maher (62) from Griffith Downs in Whitehall.

He is believed to have been involved with the nearby Home Farm football club.
