A MAN in his 20s was arrested last night after the body of a woman was found in a rural house in Co Mayo.
He was being detained last night at Castlebar Garda Station.The Irish woman, who was 29 years of age, was found at midday in a house near Mayo Abbey, Castlebar. She is the mother of two young children. It is understood she had severe head injuries. She was named locally as Sarah Staunton.
It is understood she had been staying at her parents' house but they were not at home yesterday when Ms Staunton was killed. State pathologist Dr Michael Curtis was due to arrive at the scene last night and her remains were expected to be brought to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar.
The house has been cordoned off to allow a forensic examination to be carried out.
