Man arrested after 'ride by' shooting on bike in Limerick

A MAN has been arrested after a shooting in Limerick yesterday in which a man on a bicycle fired a gun, hitting another man (42).

A 22-year-old man was arrested following the incident at Hyde Road, Limerick yesterday afternoon shortly after 2pm.

"A 42 year old man received gunshot injuries when a lone male on a bicycle approached a premises and discharged a firearm," a garda spokesman said.

"The man was taken to Limerick University Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

"Gardaí later arrested a 22 year old man and recovered a firearm and ammunition.

"The man is currently detained at Roxboro Road Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended."

Gardai later confirmed that the suspect will appear at Limerick District Court sitting at Kilmallock, Co Limerick, at 2pm on Monday charged in relation to the incident.
