Man arrested after elderly woman threatened for cash

GARDAI have arrested a young man after a burglary where an elderly woman was threatened for money.

The break-in happened at 3.45am this morning at a house in Kilmacrennan, Co Donegal.

The woman was on her own in the house when a man forced his way into her bedroom, threatened her and demanded cash.

However, he fled the scene empty-handed and the woman escaped uninjured.

It was the latest in the spate of burglaries targeting elderly people in rural areas, especially Donegal.

Pensioners have been beaten and threatened as callous raiders ransack their homes.

Gardai at Milford, Co Donegal, are investigating the latest burglary and this morning arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the incident.

He is currently being detained at Letterkenny Garda Station under Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.
