The shocking incident happened at 12.30pm on Monday at a green area at Richmond Hill in Cork.

The man threatened and robbed the couple before taking their wallets and their two iPhone 6s.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

One of the victims wrote a message on Facebook yesterday to warn people in the area to be vigilant.

“Me and my boyfriend were sitting in the field on Patricks Hill behind Bruce College at lunch when we were approached by a man with a five-foot machete.”

“He took our two phones (iPhone 6s) and our wallets with bank cards etc.”

“The guards came within ten minutes and had already found my boyfriend’s IDs in a jacket abandoned in town.”

“It was broad daylight with people around when we were approached so [I] just to warn people who would be up there to be careful," the woman added.
