Gardai have arrested a man (43) in connection with the seizure of cannabis plants worth up to €300,000.

Gardai carried out a planned search of a house at Church Manor, Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim this morning.

Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of up to €300,000 - pending analysis - were discovered during the search.

The 43 year old male was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Carrick–On-Shannon Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Gardai say these search operations use advanced analytical and intelligence methods to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks.

Drug seizures play a critical role in targeting the livelihood of criminals and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities, a garda statement said.

Drug seizures also help protect communities from the devastating impact of drugs and the associated criminality.
