Man (38) dies after crashing into a lake in Roscommon

Gardai said a man was arrested in the Kilcurry area near Dundalk over suspected dissident republican activity following an overnight cross-border police raid.

A 38-year-old man has died in Roscommon after his car left the road and plunged into a lake.

The incident occured at Grange Lake on the river Shannon near Strokestown in Roscommon in the early hours of this morning.

Two people were in the car at the time and efforts to release the man proved difficult.

He was eventually taken from the car and efforts were made to resuscitate him but he they failed.

Gardai are at the scene.
