Man (35) and woman (30) killed in two separate road accidents

A 35-year-old man was killed when his car left the road in Mayo this morning.

The crash occurred at 8am when the man’s car left the road on the R327 near Cloonfad and entered the Dalgan River.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has since been removed to Mayo University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

A technical examination of the scene has been carried out by Garda forensic collision investigators and the local Coroner has been notified.

The road remains closed to traffic and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí from Claremorris are appealing for witnesses to a single vehicle fatal traffic collision.

Meanwhile, gardai are appealing for witnesses after a 20-year-old woman died following another accident in Donegal.

Two cars collided on the N13 at Castleforward, Newtowncunningham, at around 8.30am.

The driver in one of the cars, a 30-year-old woman, was taken by ambulance to Letterkenny General Hospital where she passed away this afternoon.

The driver of the second car, a man in his 40s, was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A garda spokesperson said a technical examination of the scene was carried out and the local Coroner has been notified.
