Man (33) arrested following Wicklow café theft

A 33-year-old man has been arrested following the attempted robbery of a café in Ashford, Co Wicklow yesterday.

The man entered the premises at approximately 3.30pm yesterday afternoon and threatened staff with what has been described by gardai as an "implement".

He left the premises empty handed and no-one were injured during the incident.

Gardaí from the Wicklow Division launched a search operation of the area afterwards, which led to the man's arrest.

The arrested man was brought to Wicklow Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He was later released from custody and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
