Man (30) stabbed to death 'after intervening in incident in which woman was assaulted'

A man was fatally stabbed after intervening in an incident in which a woman was assaulted.

The incident occurred at approximately 11pm last night at a house in an area called The Grove, in Pallasgreen, Co Limerick.

Two men, aged 20 and 32, have been arrested and remain in custody this morning.

It's understood emergency services were responding to a call of a woman being assaulted when they discovered the body of a man.

The man's body was found at a house in The Grove estate at the entrance to the town on the Limerick City side.

It's understood the dead man had been trying to intervene in an incident involving a woman and another man when he received fatal stab wounds.

The woman (34) was taken to University Hospital Limerick with an apparent stab wound. Her injuries are described as non life threatening. 

Sources said the man was stabbed in the chest, abdomen, and arms. He was pronounced dead when his body was discovered, and his body remains at the scene.

The two men were arrested in connection with this investigation and are currently detained at Henry Street and Roxboro Road Garda Stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The scene has been preserved and the Offices of the State Pathologist have been notified.
