Man (30) shot in Traveller family feud

GARDAI investigating a shooting incident believe it is part of a bitter feud between two Traveller families.

The victim, who is in his 30s, is understood to be a member of the Maughan family. He was shot at Castlegrove Estate in Castlebar, Co Mayo, on Thursday night. A number of shots were fired in the incident that occurred at 8.30pm.

The victim was rushed to hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. He remained in hospital yesterday.

His attackers are believed to have fled the scene in a bronze-coloured Audi car. Officers confirmed that the latest victim is a relative of Jack Maughan (21), who was shot twice with a pellet gun at a Castlebar service station on January 6.
