Man (29) arrested for robbing staff and threatening them with hammer before assaulting passer-by

A man has been arrested for robbing a shop armed with a hammer and assaulting a passer-by in Dublin.

The 29-year-old entered a shop on Swords road in Santry and threatened staff with a hammer, demanding cash.

Gardai said there was an altercation with a staff member and the suspect then left the shop at approximately 1:20pm.

The suspect ran towards a car and assaulted the female car driver who suffered minor injuries.

Staff and passer-by's subdued the suspect until gardai arrived.

He was arrested and was then conveyed to Ballymun Garda Station, where he is being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 as amended.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact Ballymun Garda station on 01 6664000.
