Man, 24, faces explosives charges

Police investigating the flag protests have charged a man with possession of explosives and causing hoax bomb alerts

A 24-year-old man has been charged with possession of explosives and causing hoax bomb alerts by detectives investigating the flag protests.

He has also been charged with assaulting police.

It is believed these charges are connected to the discovery of a viable explosive device on the Doagh Road area of Newtownabbey in the early hours of March 4 and a number of security alerts in the Newtownabbey area.

A spokesman for the PSNI said the suspect was expected to appear in court in Belfast on Thursday.
