Man (21) charged with murder of his mother in Bray

A 21-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his mother in Bray Co Wicklow.
Bijan Afshar appeared before a special sitting of Bray District Court this evening, charged with the murder of Lynn Cassidy between 26 and 27 June.
The body of 50-year-old Ms Cassidy was found at a house in Deepdales estate off the Southern Cross road early on Friday morning after being savagely beaten to death in the quiet estate in Bray, Co Wicklow.
Afshar was arrested this morning at 11am and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Bray Garda Station
The court directed that a psychiatric report be carried out, and that Mr Afshar be given any necessary medical attention.
Mr Afshar was remanded to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Friday 4 July.
Lynn Margaret Cassidy was attacked and struck on the head two days after her 50th birthday.
Her body was discovered on the floor of a downstairs room of her home in the Deepdales estate, at Southern Cross Road, Bray, Co Wicklow, shortly before 1.30am yesterday.
